Health Care Services

When UNHCR and other UN agencies phase out from Bhutanese refugee operations beyond 2020, access to essential healthcare in refugee settlements was severely affected. Vulnerable families were left with limited medical support, leading to growing and urgent health concerns.

Responding to a formal request from the then Camp Secretary, Settlement Management Committee Beldangi, Global Foundation stepped in from 2023.  Since then, we have been delivering critical healthcare support in Nepal, ensuring that Bhutanese refugees and economically disadvantaged host communities receive timely, dignified, and life-saving medical services.

The Foundation continues to bridge critical healthcare gaps through Global Health Clinic —protecting health, restoring hope, and improving lives where it matters most.

The clinic provides free primary healthcare services not only to families living inside the refugee settlement but also to economically disadvantaged families from nearby host communities. This inclusive approach ensures that vulnerable populations, regardless of background, have access to essential health services.

The Clinic is staffed daily by two trained Community Health Assistants, who deliver basic primary healthcare, first aid, and health guidance. In addition, a MBBS doctor visits the clinic once a week to provide specialized medical services, consultations, and referrals as needed.

Through this ongoing initiative, the Foundation is working together with Global Foundation Nepal to reduce healthcare barriers, promote community well-being, and strengthen access to quality primary health services for some of the most underserved populations in the area.

Early Childhood Education Program

Early childhood is a time of hope, learning, and growth—but it also comes with health challenges. Small children are especially vulnerable to common illnesses that can affect their learning and development. Understanding this reality, Global Foundation of America has been continuously supporting the Early Childhood Education Program in the Bhutanese Refugee Settlement, Beldangi, Since 2023 with a focus on the health of young children.

Recognising that good health is the foundation of early learning and development, the Foundation has been providing first aid medical support, including essential medicines and first aid materials needed for small children enrolled in the ECD program. This support helps address common childhood illnesses at an early stage and promotes a safe and healthy learning environment, ensuring timely first aid and early treatment within ECD centers. This simple yet meaningful support helps children stay healthy, attend classes regularly, and fully engage in early learning activities.

By caring for children’s health at the earliest stage of life, this initiative is not only treating minor illnesses but also building a stronger foundation for lifelong learning and well-being. Through this ongoing effort, Global Foundation of America continues its commitment to protecting childhood, strengthening refugee communities, and investing in a healthier future for the next generation.

The initiative aims to ensure that young children grow up healthy, active, and ready to learn, while also supporting teachers and caregivers in responding to basic health needs within the ECD centers. Through this ongoing collaboration, Global Foundation of America reaffirms its commitment to improving the quality of life, health, and early education of vulnerable children in refugee communities.

Disaster Relief Program

Global Foundation’s Disaster Relief Program is committed to providing rapid, compassionate, and effective support to communities affected by natural and humanitarian disasters. When emergencies strike, vulnerable families often lose access to basic necessities such as food, shelter, clean water, and healthcare. Our mission is to respond swiftly and help affected communities recover with dignity.

Through this program, Global Foundation delivers immediate relief assistance, including emergency food supplies, safe drinking water, temporary shelter materials, medical support, and essential non-food items. We work closely with local authorities, community leaders, and partners to ensure that aid reaches those most in need in a timely and transparent manner.

Beyond emergency response, our disaster relief efforts also focus on early recovery and resilience. By supporting rehabilitation, health services, and community preparedness, we aim to reduce long-term vulnerability and help communities rebuild safer and stronger.

With the support of our donors and partners, Global Foundation stands with affected communities before, during, and after disasters—saving lives, restoring hope, and strengthening resilience.
